[attr="class","staffpost"]Three thousand years have passed. Magic has changed tremendously; it is not as stable and clear-cut as it was before. Now, it runs wild, rampant; new magic types are being discovered every day. The world is changing at an alarming pace. The population of mages was once at ten percent; now, it's at a staggering fifty percent. The Magic Council has deemed the previous guild system obsolete and are now encouraging mages to start anew in order to rebuild the magical world’s tarnished reputation. Non-mages remain cautious of mages, for the events of the past are still fresh on their mind. There is talk of dark, dark things brewing amongst the shadows -- talk about the destruction of the Magic Council, the creation of a new world, the arrival of new creatures and beings, the harnessing of the One Magic.
Fast-forward to recent events. There were numerous reports about people, plants, creatures, beasts -- anything living -- being twisted and corrupted by a sinister force. Research has shown that the force responsible is magical in origin; the terrifying thing that the force itself is Black Arts -- a twisted, forbidden magic that has the capacity to manipulate life itself. Black Arts have caused calamity and destruction before in the past; however, now, it's worse. Now, the Black Arts itself has somehow learned to be sentient and usable on its own; now, it doesn't need a mage to funnel its power through.
The Magic Council has initiated a series of investigations and research projects in order to find out more about the Black Arts' evolution and the mechanisms behind its abilities. Security has been ramped up within the towns and cities. There have also been sparse reports of small fragments of Primordial Magic -- magic stemming from the origin of magic itself -- detected with people; said reports have been shaken off as baseless rumors.
