It was curious to see such a different job on the request board, or after all most of them were about looking after people or stuff like that which could turn out to be really boring while he expected definitely more of a challenge from the one he had just found; a treasure in a tomb.
Although, what he really looked for were challengers or such, else he would have been really disappointed. The reward was not that bad as well, it would have been worth it either way in the end. He wished he could go for some S-Class mission, too bad they were mostly shared among guilds and he was a freelancer.
Everything he had been doing in those days were missions, he had not attacked anyone or tried to scare a town in case of possible assault in a while; after his encounter with Rialle to be precise. He didn’t seem any different, because he didn’t want to; her words had somehow hurt him in one way or another, of how he was so stupid to attack a city just for fun and so on. It was difficult to explain but in the end he just tried to shrug it off and continue being just himself- or rather his current self.
So, he just took the job request, unaware that someone was going to tag along and walked off. It was quite far from his location, and as such.. he decided to do something he would have never wanted to do in his life; use a transport. He went for a simple carriage and it didn’t take him long to feel sick, as soon as it began to move at least.
In the end, his cheeks were puffed up with a drop of saliva which streamed off from his mouth. His skin was pale, his expression sore with his eyes asking for no more but for the carriage to stop. “S-someone.. stop this already.. please..” - he muttered, before falling from his seat to the ground, slowly catching up to the carriage’s locked doors. “D-dammit.. they won’t open..” - he muttered as he actually tried destroying them even if he was still lying on the ground but it was useless, he had not even a bit of his strength.
In a matter of ten minutes or so, the door suddenly opened and Lance slipped as he was still pushing to force them open, rolling on the ground before he stopped but still laid there, not realizing he was off the carriage.

Lance was finally off that instrument of death, or not really but it was to him. It took him a few moments to realize that he was not moving anymore, he was no more in the carriage but laying on the ground and as soon as he did, his eyes seemed to light up and his skin was no more pale. “Ugh.. I hate this.. goddammit.” - he thought to himself, placing a hand over his forehead as he stood up and looked around. It had been long since he suffered from motion sickness, mostly because he avoid most means of transport but some times it was too tempting.
Once he finally glanced around, he immediately noticed he had just arrived. He let out a sigh and smirked, tilting his head slightly to the side while he stretched himself. “Here we are.. now.. the graveyard should be that way..” - he muttered, shifting his gaze towards a familiar pathway.
The God Slayer made his way through a forest, a real quick one only to find what he was looking for; the graveyard pointed out in the quest. It wasn’t obviously the greatest of places, but he was there to retrieve a treasure of some sorts and give it back to receive his reward after all, not like he cared that much for how the place looked.
His head held low before he sensed something familiar really close to him-- literally, she was in front of him. He looked up and raised a brow, his head tilting once more. It had not been that long since the two met again after years but it’d have been difficult to forget her magical power either way. “..O-oh.. it’s just Ria..” - he muttered before he almost jumped up. “..W-wait.. Ria?!” - he exclaimed, his eyes twitching, apparently flustered by her presence. “Ugh.. I didn't really expect this now. Either this is a coincidence or I was wrong believing that this would have been a solo job.” - he said, almost to himself as he checked the request paper again.

He had no idea of what Rialle was actually doing there at first, but it didn’t take him long to realize. It was really one hell of a coincidence for the two to meet so shortly after their last encounter and even worse they were supposed to work together. He read the job request carefully and thoroughly, his eyes squinting as he looked for something to prove that Rialle had no reason to be there. “Hm. My bad for not reading this stuff better. I guess.” - he said, letting out a grunt as he put the job request back into his pocket.
The God Slayer blinked as she spoke up, he didn’t really make eye contact, perhaps out of shame or he just didn’t feel like it but either way he replied shortly after. “No.. I’m not looking for a fight. I mean.. if you want to fight, I’m up for one but I’m kind of hoping to finish this mission as soon as possible.” - he said, trying to look nonchalant, nodding in agreement with her.
“Yes, I’m here for that job. I’m not into heists, robberies or stuff like that. Plus if I’d do that every time, it’d become harder each time until the Rune Knights catch me.” - he paused shortly before looking up to the grave. "Then again, most missions end up being more exciting than that kind of stuff." - he said, folding his arms on his chest.
“..D-don’t think I changed or something. This is just what I do to earn jewels, considering I also get to kick a few butts here and there. Usually at least.” - he told her. Even if it was actually true as he didn't really do anything but small jobs here and there, it was hard to tell if he had changed but their last encounter definitely meant something to him. He narrowed his eyes, looking up to the Exceed. He couldn’t tell why but the Exceed spoke as if the two had actually met before, and perhaps they did but he didn’t really remember him that well. “...Who.. who are you again?” - he asked.

The God Slayer really thought of just picking up and leave but he was not going to give up on the mission just for that, not after all the pain he endured on the carriage anyway and the bare thought made Lance feel shivers down his spine. He couldn’t really tell what was so important with that fabric she held but there was apparently some interesting smell or stuff like that, he couldn’t tell. His physical senses were not as enhanced as a Dragon Slayer after all, perhaps it was not that bad to team up with Rialle just for once- or at least in a mission like this one.
He looked up to her as she suddenly spoke up, much to Lance’s curiosity considering she apparently realized who could have possibly taken the sword. He didn’t really get it, but he just nodded and rolled with Rialle’s plan, he was fine with it as long as they could get that job done quickly. “I guess we should. I’m not that good with talking, so you’d probably handle this.” - he said, scratching the back of his neck.
Lance was about to pick up and leave until Rialle brought up the topic of ''means of transport'', he gulped and clenched his fist. “M-means of transportation.. y-you say? Erm.. is it really necessary?” - he asked, hoping to convince her to just let him walk or something.
Flashback
It had not been long, just a month or something like that since the two met and yet Lance thought greatly of her already. The two had agreed on training in the woods which he could arrange, he didn’t really have anywhere else to be or something else to do after all. His friendship with Rialle had somewhat brought his mind elsewhere from just walking around to look for an old man who disappeared more than a few months ago.
He walked through the deep forest, it was almost a frightening sight but Lance didn’t seem to fear it that much, not as long as he could defend himself. He glanced around, scratching his cheek innocently. “Hmm.. I guess Ria should be somewhere around here.” - he thought to himself but all of a sudden he heard a scream which made him widen his eyes, it was just a scream but it was easy to tell it was Rialle. “Ria! Hey! Where are you?!” - his voice rose as he began running around, looking for her as he tried to pick up on her energy.

He didn’t really think of going anywhere with a mean of transport in the beginning, but it was pretty much the fastest way and Lance wasn’t really patient at all, he couldn’t afford to travel back and forth every time after all. Rialle didn’t seem to be that fond of vehicles either, perhaps it was a common trait among Slayers to suffer from motion sickness or something like that, it didn’t really make much of a difference to him anyway if a fellow Slayer suffered from that damn sickness as well.
“Hm, meh.. I guess we can just make it there by our feet anyway.” - he stated, looking around as he tried to seem indifferent to her presence, he didn’t hate her that much but it just felt awkward to be doing a job with her after what had happened. The God Slayer could tell Rialle was trying to hide it herself after all, it was easy to tell the difference between a real and a fake smile and hers didn’t really show off anything behind it.
Lance just followed her, folding his arms on his chest with a nonchalant expression on his face. He didn’t really even try to smile or frown, or anything else really. He just wanted to finish that job as quick as possible without interacting too much with the Dragon Slayer. He tilted his head as she spoke of a merchant, much to his curiosity, considering he didn’t know what that would have had to do with anything but he just listened to her.
Flashback
He frowned, his eyes wide open as he managed to pick up on her magical power and pinpoint it before he arrived there, only to find a massive ape. If she was suddenly attacked by that-- that thing probably wanted to eat her. He stood next to her and smiled to her for a brief moment. “Sorry for the waiting, Ria.” - he told her, seeing her still harmless made him feel better but not at ease in front of that ape.
His expression turned serious, he took a step forward and looked at the ape dead in the eyes. “Konoyaro.. (“You bastard..”)” - he said and extended a hand towards him and pointed at the ape. “Hey, temee! (“Hey, you!”)” - he spoke up once more with a firm tone of voice, looking rather pissed off as he called the ape out. “I don’t like those like you!” - he told him, slamming his fist into his other hand’s palm.
The ape was suddenly about to attack him but then Lance sprinted forward with his fist and began calling out spell names as he enhanced his physical moves with his God Slayer magic. Although, it didn’t seem to do much but scratch the ape, up to the point where the ape just needed a hand to send Lance flying off.
The God Slayer rested on the ground for a moment or two, scratching his head before he stood up once more, slowly but he did it. Lance took a deep breath and released a weak burst of black flames from his mouth, but it was not aimed to hurt the ape but a tree whose trunk cut from the kid’s spell. As such, the huge tree suddenly fell onto the ape’s head, forcing it to fall unconscious.

Lance listened to her silently, trying to not interrupt her as he tried to catch the sense of her speech which sounded like a mission like any other. It sounded much more complex than others but that didn’t really matter, nor did it actually explain anything to him but he just let her be and continue. “So, wait.. this woman, whoever she is wanted to bring back the dead? Erm, I see but what does this have to do with anything?” - he asked, tilting his head slightly.
He scratched the back of his neck, humming softly as he tried to catch up with Rialle’s explanation. “I mean.. we have to find a sword and how would you even know it’s her fault if the sword disappeared?” - he didn’t really know what Rialle was talking about and had more doubts than anything else at that point.
The two had finally arrived at the house, it took them quite a bit but at least they didn’t have to take a vehicle or something like that. He folded his arms on his chest, standing next to the door. “You’d be better off talk with them yourself. I’ll just listen in or wait outside.” - he said.
Flashback
Lance scratched the back of his neck, a sore expression on his face before he felt a refreshing feeling; Rialle’s healing magic. He smiled brightly and nodded, scratching his cheek innocently. “Heh, yeah.. I guess. I’m kinda disappointed though.. I took a bit too much in my opinion, heh.” - he said before he stood up and glanced around.
“But yeah, I’m sorry for taking so long.. it won’t happen ever again. I swear.” - he said, frowning as he seemed pretty much serious. His expression turned into a reassuring one shortly after as soon as Rialle spoke up. “Yeah, of course. You know you can count on me.. we’re friends after all!”

Lance looked at the fabric in mild interest, raising a brow as he listened to her. He didn’t really know how its smell, or at least he didn’t as much as Rialle did, after all she was a Dragon Slayer and in being so her physical senses were enhanced. “..I see..” - he replied, scratching his cheek in a thoughtful manner before he spoke up once more. “So, this woman is supposed to be involved in one way or another. Or at least that’s what you could gather from that piece of fabric. I guess she might just want to sell that sword if it’s that old.” - he said, shrugging the matter off shortly after.
He closed his eyes for a brief moment and looked at the door before he simply nodded. “I guess I’ll listen in, that’d be way better than asking you to repeat it all over again.” - he said, not really showing off anything but disregard. “Let’s just get this over with.” - he said, standing next to her as he waited for someone to open the door and let them in.
Flashback
He smiled, shaking his head slowly as he just disagreed on what she thought. “No, that is not true.. I could barely scratch him, if I won was only because I came up with the whole tree idea. I guess that’s still a victory, but yeah.. I swear next time I'll be strong enough to kick his butt without even looking at him!” - he said, letting out an innocent chuckle as he scratched the back of his neck before he arched an eyebrow, looking at her as she began crying.
Lance freezed there for a moment or two, unsure of what he should have done. He had never seen Rialle crying before, and that really brought a frown upon his face. He looked down briefly before he wrapped his arms around her and gave her a friendly hug. “Hey, that’s not true! It could have gone much worse, you’re fine while I’ve even got injured. I’m sure you will become stronger and learn lots of fancy spells! Not like we were born with this magic after all.” - he said before offering her a reassuring smile.
“And also, I’ll always be here for you! And I expect ya’ to be as well-- we’ll protect each other. That’s what comrades do, right?”

There was indeed no time for the two Slayers to chat, he didn’t really want to chat either way with someone like Rialle in a situation like the one they were in even if he was getting used to her presence, it still didn’t feel right. He looked up to the man who opened the door, who really needed a diet but that aside it seemed like one they could trust-- else he could always just burn the house down. “So, this old man is the one who requested the job. Although this guy seems really strict, quite paranoid I’d rather say.” - he thought to himself, folding his arms on his chest as he offered a nod in greeting.
He didn’t do much but stand there and listen, hopefully the old man knew more, else all of that would have had no sense. He could have literally picked any other job but this one, although this one paid off more than usual and sounded far better than a rescue mission.
He didn’t really take up his offer to sit, he just stood there and let him and Rialle talk while listening in to the conversation.
Flashback
He offered a soft smile, closing his eyes briefly. “Thanks, but I’m aiming for improvement- as much as I need to take one of those down with my bare fists!” - he said, showing off a toothy grin. He widened his eyes as soon as he was pulled into a tight hug, he didn’t really do much but smile warmly and pat her on the shoulder.
“Yeah, we’re the best team ever!” - he exclaimed, his smile growing into a smirk as he completely agreed with her statement. Stay together-- forever, it would have definitely been great, but the two didn’t know what was set in front of them.
