MISSION NAME: A Day at the Spa!!! MISSION RANK: C NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 0 OBJECTIVE: Come one, come all, to Hosenka Town's famous Super Express Spa! Bring this flyer and you'll be rewarded with a FREE Spa Day*!!
*Conditions apply It was no secret that Jaeger loved Hosenka Town, and visited whenever his budget would allow. He could relax in those hot springs for days if he didn't need to eat, drink, sleep, make money, or allow the staff to go home to their families. Aside from his friends, the only people who really knew Jaeger on a first-name basis were the staff at Super Express and the attached spa. That was why he was so surprised to see the strange mission posted on the job board during his travels. Surely the staff at Super Express would have told him about this frankly incredible promotion!
Reading over the flyer, it looked like it was too good to be true. A free spay day just for showing up with a mission flyer? Incredible! In his excitement, Jaeger almost missed the fine print - "Conditions apply". What could that possibly mean? Would the free spa day only be available to the first ten people to show up with flyers? Would it be a free spa day with a purchase of some of Super Express' delicious egg rolls? Jaeger was as concerned as he was excited.
Surely the C-Class ranking was just to ensure that this offer could only benefit those wizards who had made some sort of difference in the world, right? No way there was something else going on, no sir.
Jaeger took off on his motorcycle for Hosenka Town. He was going to get to the bottom of this, and earn himself a free day at the hot springs. Hell yes!

As he pulled in to Hosenka Town, Jaeger smiled as if on instinct alone. The place just made him happy. People loved Hosenka Town, and it showed on the faced of the tourists and locals alike. It showed in how well the town was maintained. It showed in how much money these people must be making because damn the prices were kinda steep but oh so worth it.
Coming to a stop in front of the Super Express Spa, Jaeger was surprised to see that there was a sign with big red letters hanging from the door. It read:
SORRY, HOT SPRINGS CLOSED. NORMAL SPA SERVICES STILL AVAILABLE.
"Closed?" Jaeger said to himself, confused. "That's odd. I hope someone didn't get the springs all gross or something..."
Opening the door, he stepped in quietly and politely. He slid his boots off and left them by the door, as was the custom. A lot of tourists didn't realize they were supposed to remove their shoes. Jaeger knew better. He approached the desk clerk - a young woman by the name of Traci. She smiled at him and gave him a friendly little wave.
"Welcome back, Jaeger! It's been a while since we've seen you, I was starting to worry."
"Money's been tight. You know that even death couldn't keep me away from this place!" The two had a friendly laugh. "Listen, I saw this flyer posted a couple towns over. Is this for real?"
"Oh, um...yes, yes it is! Let me just go authenticate the flyer with my manager, and I'll be back to discuss the terms and conditions of the contra-I mean spa day."
She scurried off into a back room labeled 'employees only', leaving Jaeger to scratch his head and wonder what was really going on here. Why would they need to authenticate the flyer? Did they really think people were going to make counterfeit versions?

It wasn't long before Traci came scurrying back out to the front desk, holding the flyer and another sheet of paper. She wore a smile, but this time it was less genuine. It was the sort of smile you wear when you're worried someone is going to blow a gasket and start throwing things. This was not a good sign.
"Here you go, the terms and conditions of your free spay day."
"Let's take a look," Jaeger said, raising an eyebrow. He read this new sheet of paper, which had a line at the bottom for him to sign.
WELCOME TO THE SUPER EXPRESS SPA, WIZARD. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO REDEEM YOUR FREE SPA DAY MISSION FLYER. AS THE FLYER INDICATED, THERE ARE SOME CONDITIONS THAT WILL APPLY FOR YOUR FREE SPA DAY:
1) BEFORE YOU CAN REDEEM YOUR SPA DAY, YOU MUST VISIT OUR HOT SPRINGS. 2) THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE HOT SPRINGS THAT YOU'LL NEED TO RESOLVE FOR US. 3) THERE IS A MONSTER IN THE HOT SPRINGS AND WE NEED YOU TO GET RID OF IT OH GOD PLEASE HELP US 4) YOU CANNOT TELL ANYONE ABOUT THIS IT WILL RUIN OUR BUSINESS 5) ONCE THE HOT SPRINGS ARE CLEAR YOU CAN SPEND AS MUCH TIME IN THE SPA AS YOU WANT ON ANY ONE DAY OF YOUR CHOOSING 6) SPA DAY INCLUDES A COUPON FOR ONE FREE ORDER OF SUPER EXPRESS EGG ROLLS (SO TASTY!)
SIGN HERE IF THE ABOVE TERMS ARE AGREEABLE: ____________________________________________ Jaeger's eyes widened as he read the flyer. FREE EGG ROLLS? THIS DEAL KEPT GETTING BETTER AND BETTER! Sure, there was that whole business with a monster in the hot springs that he'd have to deal with, but that was no problem. He'd have done this job for just a handful of jewels - he couldn't let this place wither and die because of a monster in the famous hot springs!
"You've got yourself a monster hunter," he said to Traci, signing the conditions form, "I'll get started right away."
"Oh, thank you Jaeger, you have no idea how much this means to us. The management was really starting to sweat and I could have lost my job," she said as he walked away towards the hot springs area of the spa, "Just try not to break anything!"

The hot springs were quiet, save for the soft splashing sounds of the water up against the rocks it was contained in. The springs were never particularly loud - everyone knew it was a place of relaxation, not rowdy fun - but he'd never seen them this quiet. The stillness was a bit unsettling. It didn't seem natural. For the first time, Jaeger found himself tense and on edge in Hosenka Town. That alone was an unforgivable crime.
Kneeling down at the water's edge, he dipped his finger into the springs. Shocked, he pulled his hand back reflexively. The water was ice cold. No wonder they were so concerned - even if this monster wasn't hostile, it would ruin their business just by doing whatever it was doing to the water. Looking down into the pool, he could see where the water came from, deep within the Earth's crust where it would normally be heated to pleasant bathing temperatures. He'd never noticed before, but it was more than big enough for a person to fit through, and the Spa had just built in seats and safeguards to prevent people from getting stuck in there.
Taking off his jacket and pants, Jaeger knew what he had to do. This monster clearly wasn't in the room with him, so it must make its home deep in the water, near the source itself. Stretching his arms, legs, and neck, he stalled for a moment. Jaeger hated swimming. Not because he was bad at it, or because it messed up his hair (though that also sucked), but because the only solution he'd ever been able to come up with in regards to breathing underwater was to use his Take Over magic to turn his head into that of a gaping, pompadoured carp. He climbed into the water, and as his magic energy transformed his head into that of a fish, dove down into the crack in the ground from whence the water came.

The deeper he went into the water, the darker it became. This was another benefit of changing his head into a fish's head - the eyes were better adapted to seeing under water. As much as he hated how foolish it made him look, he had to admit that it was more than a little bit useful. He swam gracefully down, down, down until he found himself in a grand, expansive underwater cave. He allowed himself a moment to be awed by it, taking in the majesty of nature that likely had never been seen by a human. He'd have to tell Rialle all about it, she'd be so jealous.
He was shaken from his daze by a shadow moving quickly off on the far end of the cave. It was big, and it was long, and it scared the everloving shit out of him. Still, not one to turn tail and run away - especially not when his favorite town was at stake - Jaeger carried on, swimming towards the movement. The further he went, the colder the water got. He'd have to study walruses or something, just in case he ever had to swim in freezing cold water ever again. His hands and feet went numb. He tried to ignore it.
Finally he came upon what he could only call an accidental graveyard. The skeletal and exoskeletal remains of all manner of fish and other underwater creatures littered the floor of the cave in great big piles. Something here was very, very hungry. What made Jaeger's blood finally run as cold as the water, however, was the very human skeleton sat atop the piles of fish bones, staring forever forward with a toothy grin.
This was bad.

Turning around in the water, Jaeger began to wonder if this really was a one-man job. However, just as he started to swim back to the spa, at the very least to regroup, warm up, and formulate a real plan, he was struck by something big and meaty, with slick dark skin that was so cold that it felt like it had burned off his flesh. He was sent tumbling through the water, stopping only as he slammed into an underwater stalagmite.
Turning to face where he'd been struck, he only saw that shadow once more, though this time he could make out more of its shape as it swam off into the darkness, likely to ambush him again in a moment. It was long and serpentine, with jet black skin covered in what looked like blue crystalline barnacles. He had no idea exactly what this thing was, but he could tell by the way it moved that it was some sort of monstrous eel. It also appeared to want him dead.
Jaeger took off through the water back towards where he thought the exit to the spa must have been, but found only smooth cave walls. That hit had thrown him off his bearings, and now he had no idea where he was. He didn't have time to search every inch of the cave, not while he was being hunted by some sort of insane ice eel. Tucking himself against a wall, he turned to watch the cave for any sign of the monster.

It wasn't long before the eel's big face came out of the darkness to snap at him, and he punched at it's nose and mouth desperately to get it to back off. He could feel the cold settling deeper and deeper into his fingers, and even with his attacks the eel's teeth had managed to rip into the flesh on his arms and legs. The sheer size of the thing sent the water rushing about him, and once again he went ass over teakettle through the underwater cave.
Running out of breath, time, and options, Jaeger began to panic. He picked a direction and swam, hoping that this bastard eel would take a few minutes to turn around and savor the kill. His hopes were dashed when the eel swam by him again, sideswiping him with its enormous, freezing body. Again, he tumbled through the water, stopping only when he hit a pile of discarded fish bones. For a brief moment, he blacked out.
When he came to, Jaeger could see the eel was now just sort of circling about. It seemed it finally had him where it wanted him, and was now going to savor the moment of the kill itself. Jaeger started to think that maybe this was the end. That maybe he'd finally bitten off more than he could chew.
Wait.
That was just crazy enough to work.

The eel surged forward, mouth wide open in a silent roar of triumph. Preparing to take a great big bite out of Jaeger's ass, its Pharyngeal jaw stretched out from its throat like some sort of grasping, toothy hand. Jaeger sat stock-still on the pile of bones, waiting for the end to come.
Of course, the end wouldn't come, because just before the eel struck, he crammed the femur that had once belonged to the poor bastard that had fallen victim to this thing right into its mouth, propping open its jaw. When it went to bite down, it found that its mouth was stuck open. Jerking to one side and swimming away, the eel thrashed in the water, frustrated by this new development.
Jaeger took a moment to let his heart catch up to him as it raced. Now that the monster was distracted, he could get his bearings. Thankfully, he knew where he was now that he was on the bone pile. And since he knew where he was, he knew where he'd have to go.

Kicking his arms and legs like there was no tomorrow, Jaeger made for the exit as fast as he could. He knew, however, that the eel wasn't just going to let him leave. He certainly wouldn't have, if he were in the eel's place. It was only a matter of time before it shook that bone loose, and even with its jaws out of commission it still had the advantage in the water. He could only hope that it was too distracted to see that he'd taken off.
His hopes, of course, were dashed when he felt the water grow colder around him. Still swimming, he turned to look behind him only to see the eel's big face no more than a dozen feet behind him. A soft blue glow emanated from deep within its throat, and the bone in its mouth was soon covered in ice. As it snapped, Jaeger could feel the water around him beginning to crystallize as well. He could feel the strength draining from his limbs.
"Oh, no," he gurgled, "I'm not gonna die here like this. Poogie would never let me hear the end of it! BEAST FIST: WOLFEN!"
He took a deep gulping breath as the fish's head faded away, his magical energy redirecting to his limbs. Fur sprouted on his forearms and forelegs, his fingers and toes growing sharp, curving claws. What was more important, however, was the Wolfen's strength surging through his body. His speed picked back up as his now-strong arms and legs stroked and kicked. He could see the crack in the cave wall. He could see his way home.

Jaeger came bursting through the crack in the earth, into the pool of the hot springs just in time as the eel's jaws closed mere inches behind his foot. As he emerged into the pool's water, he paused, thinking maybe it was all over. That maybe he'd survived so he could go get some help and come back to finish this thing off.
That was when the eel barreled into him from behind, it's momentum forcing it through the hole and into the hot springs. Jaeger and the eel went soaring up and out of the water before landing hard on the tile floor below. Great streaks of red ran down both sides of the eel's body, as the hole had been too small for it to get anything but its head through previously. Now, however, the hole was just a bit bigger, and the eel's body just a bit smaller (and torn the hell open).
Jaeger stood up, shaking the water off his hair and fur as the eel gasped its last. As it died, so did it's coldness. The room felt ten degrees warmer mere moments after its demise.
"Yeah. Fuck you. That's what you get."
Grabbing the eel's body, Jaeger pulled and pulled and pulled it through the hole and up onto the tile floor of the hot springs proper. By the time he was done, the pool was a bloody red mess just like the eel's body, but he could see the steam rising off of it like normal. The water was already returning to normal.
"Hey Traci," he called, "I killed it." ___________________________________________
One week later, Jaeger returned to Hosenka Town, his free spa day pass in hand. It had taken almost the full week for the Super Express staff to clean out the Hot Springs, and while they had taken a hit in their revenue, they were grateful to Jaeger for ultimately saving their business.
He sat in the hot springs, enjoying his free egg rolls, when a young man came up to him quietly. He held in his hands a bowl of rice topped with the biggest pieces of eel meat he'd ever seen.
